This book contains recipes from generations of families (students and parents) who visit the Shalom Education Center in Rockville, MD.

A collection of recipes of olden days and family stories, memories.

We hope that our readers will enjoy the cultural traits and historical events they will find described in these families’ stories.

COMMUNITY SHABBAT DINNERS, 2018 – 2023

We know that our families cherish the opportunity to meet other Russian-Speaking Jewish kids and adults, who share common cultural references, and feel free to be Russian and Jewish at the same time.
Several times a year one of Shalom families invites our school community for a potluck dinner. We gather to share a meal, meet each other and learn something about Jewish Traditions, Israel, DC Metro area Jewish Community or to read and discuss a thought provoking text.

From March 2020 till summer 2022 Shabbat Dinners were online only. From 2022-23 school year Shalom EC organized Shabbat dinners in person!

PIZZA HOURS, 2018 – 2023

This is a program for post B’nai Mitzvah teenagers, who graduated from Shalom School (or just decided to join) and are interested in learning more, being part of the Shalom family, volunteering and continuing hanging out with friends.
Each year we pick a topic to learn, discuss and to create projects. We hope our teenagers will grow into self-confident adults, who are proud of their Russian-Jewish heritage, feel connected to Israel and recognize the power and importance of Jewish Community.

MITZVA PROJECTS

The Shalom school has an exciting opportunity for Tu BiShvat holiday. We participate with the Jewish National Fund’s Tu Bishvat program and allow to students, parents and our community to plant a tree in Israel.

This is a fantastic opportunity to do a mitzvah, support Israel, and participate in Tikkun Olam (the theme of our teenager program in 2020-21 and 2022-23 school years).
